All-Volunteer Board of Directors

MDG Boston has nine members on its all-volunteer Board of Directors composed of three officers and six at-large members. These individuals are elected by the MDG Boston Members for 2-year terms. Former volunteers, officers or directors who have provided extraordinary service to the organization are honored with Director Emeritus status.

Jeff Karg, MSME  |  President

Managing Director, Boston Innovation

Jeff has served as President of MDG Boston since 2020. He has been involved with MDG since 2012 and was Chair of Program Central, which plans all of MDG Boston’s Forums and other events from 2012 to 2020.

Jeff’s professional experience encompasses technology development, entrepreneurship, and business leadership. Jeff has demonstrated success in technology creation and product development in both startup and corporate environments. He has been through multiple development and funding cycles and is expert in navigating complex projects with large teams. Jeff has accumulated 23 client-owned patents in a wide range of products. As CEO of his startup nAscent BioSciences, he led a small but amazing group developing drug discovery tools for pharmaceutical and biotech companies; nAscent was later sold to ThermoFisher Scientific.

After receiving his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology, Jeff moved with his family to attend Stanford University for a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering on full scholarship from AT&T Bell Laboratories. He currently leads product development for New View Surgical, a startup based in Boston.

Eric Walters, CPA  |  Treasurer

CEO, a Co-Founder, and a Director of ONEighty C Technologies Corporation

Eric has served as Treasurer of MDG Boston since 2018. Eric has been a senior financial executive in both private and publicly-held medical device and health care companies for more than 20 years. He has raised more than $100M in capital. He is a co-founder of the New England Healthcare Executives Network (NEHEN) and is active in MassMEDIC.

Eric has served as Treasurer of MDG Boston since 2018. Eric Walters has been a senior financial executive in both private and publicly-held medical device and health care companies for more than 20 years. He has raised more than $100M in capital. He is a co-founder of the New England Healthcare Executives Network (NEHEN) and is active in MassMEDIC.

At PolyMedica, he was EVP/CFO and a member of the original senior management team that grew a $1M medical device start-up company to $350M in profitable revenues, which later sold for $1.5B in cash when its revenues exceeded $675M. Mr. Walters has developed and managed high performance finance teams, has an extensive business network, possesses excellent strategy and execution skills, is experienced in budgeting and cost controls and is a proactive communicator with a wide range of audiences. He has managed investor relations for a publicly-held corporation with a $1B market capitalization. He was formerly a Big Four auditor.

ONEighty C Technologies owns WAVEPulseTM Sterilization, a proprietary and first-to-market high-performance sterilization process targeting deficiencies with existing systems in hospitals and other medical institutions.

Iris Stammberger, PhD, MEd, MS  |  Secretary

Founder and CEO of TALBOK Consulting

Iris has served as Secretary of MDG Boston since 2016. In her professional life, she specializes in helping organizational leaders create a visual management system to facilitate and track progress of new initiatives and align day-to-day decision making with strategic goals.

Their projects have been as varied as implementing new educational models at universities, launching clinical trials at a public pharmaceutical company, designing a strategy implementation model for a medical device startup, launching a new product development team at a software company, supporting an emerging hub of drug discovery tool manufacturers, etc. The focus is on using findings from a discipline known as cognitive engineering to make work visible in ways that increase efficiency, effectiveness, and adaptability.

She has degrees from Tufts University (Interdisciplinary Ph.D. & CAGS Human Computer Interaction), Cambridge College (MEd Clinical Psychology), IESA Venezuela (CAGS Business Administration), Universidad Central de Venezuela (MS Electrical Engineering), and Universidad de Carabobo, Venezuela (BS Electrical Engineering). She is a former PMP/PMI (2009-2013), and currently is a member of various women’s professional organizations in the Boston area (HBA Mentor, NEWISE Club, WEST).

Joe Berkowitz, CBPA  |  Director-At-Large

Director of Sales, SelecTech, Inc.

Joe has been an active member of MDG since 2011. In that time, he has been part of Program Central, helped plan numerous Forums, and had leadership roles in Networking, Sponsorships, Mentorship, and Business Development. He was elected to the BOD in 2020.

In his professional life, he is a senior executive sales leader and trusted advisor who aggressively grows revenue in competitive markets. He has grown book of business from zero to $110M through cold calling and networking to accumulate over 35 companies comprised of startups to fortune 1000 companies, with typical sales of $5-$7M annually. He was a Managing Partner of a $4M business with 40% growth margin and was placed in several turnaround situations. He has created a business by raising capital and managing every aspect of design, set up and operation of a multimillion-dollar venture. His current company, SelecTech, Inc., is the leader in modular technical flooring for the Laboratory, Cleanroom, Healthcare and ESD environments.

Andrea Cahill, BASc  |  Director-At-Large

Senior Systems Engineer, Boston Scientific Corporation

Andrea has served on the MDG Boston BOD since 2018 and is co-chair of Program Central, where she has been a co-organizer of many Forums and overseen others. As an R&D engineer, Andrea has worked on medical devices including blood diagnostics, capital equipment for urology procedures and cardiovascular surgical devices.

As an R&D Engineer at Haemonetics Corporation, she led the pilot manufacturing line developing new hemostasis management products. As a Systems Engineer at Boston Scientific Corporation she is working on capital equipment for kidney stone and benign prostatic hyperplasia procedures.

Andrea also served as Chair on the Board of Directors for the University of British Columbia Biomedical Engineering Student Team (UBC BEST) where she grew the team from 7 to over 70 members in her two years as CEO. UBC BEST is an extracurricular engineering student design team focused on developing medical technologies that address global medical challenges. She has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering, specialized in Biomedical Engineering from the University of British Columbia.

Geoff Moodie, PhD  |  Director-At-Large

Director, Biocompatibility at Eurofins

Geoff has been involved in MDG Boston since 2015, is co-chair of Program Central, which is responsible for all Forums and other events. He has served on the BOD since 2015. His previous companies, where he advanced with increasing responsibility and authority, include Getinge Group (previously Atrium Medical Corp.), Semma Therapeutics, and Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Much of his professional experience is with preclinical study development, troubleshooting, and monitoring, as well as budgeting, timelines and resource allocation…

He has had extensive recent experience in ISO 10993 (Biocompatibility) compliance, including roles as a study monitor, author of supportive rationales, and overall biocompatibility strategy development for several device types. He has published in various peer reviewed journals. Geoff has a PhD in Medical Science from Brown University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering Studies from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Jerry mentors and helps, pro bono, those in transition and those new to the medical device industry find jobs. He cofounded the Boston University Department of Biomedical Engineering, was PI on many NIH grants, Director of two medical laboratories, and Associate Professor of Surgery, Medicine, Ophthalmology and Biomedical Engineering.

In industry, he was Ophthalmology Program Manager, Director of Engineering, Director of Operations, Chief Operating Officer, CEO, and President of medical device companies. Jerry is co-inventor of an effective treatment for a debilitating medical condition affecting about 500 million women worldwide and leader of the startup medical device company bringing it to market. Jerry has a PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Michigan, a MS in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University College of Engineering, and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn.

Ilsa Webeck has been a BOD member since 2018 and oversees marketing  for MDG Boston. She is the founder of MedTech Strategies, a boutique strategic market research consulting firm.

Ilsa has nearly 25 years of strategy, marketing and product development experience which she leverages to help clients address their tough questions. MedTech Strategies sits at the nexus of product development and commercialization, working with companies of all sizes to understand user needs, clarify the product value proposition and develop actionable strategies for growth. Her past roles include strategic planning, product management and early product development at HeartWare, Biogen, Johnson & Johnson’s DePuy Spine and Health Advances. Ilsa holds an MBA from the Tuck School of Business and a BA in Biology from Dartmouth College. She is an invited lecturer at Biomedical Innovation Center.

Glenn D. Wambolt, BS  |  Director-At-Large

Glenn was invited to join the BOD in 2021. He is a progressive, results-oriented Human Resources Executive with over 25 years of experience providing thought leadership to CEO’s and senior leadership teams of global organizations within the healthcare, manufacturing, and high-technology/software industries.

He has extensive experience working with influential leadership of global, highly-matrixed organizations and is well-versed in all facets of Human Resources including Organizational Effectiveness, Employee Engagement, Change Management, Talent Acquisition, Talent Development, Compensation, Employee Relations, and Labor Relations.

Glenn currently works as an independent advisory consultant providing advice and counsel to senior level executives across multiple industries. His experience includes six years as VP of Human Resources for Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence and nearly 20 years at Johnson & Johnson, where he held various senior level roles within Human Resources at five different J&J operating companies. Glenn earned a BS degree in Human Resources Management from the University of Massachusetts and did extensive graduate work in Labor and Industrial Relations at the University of Rhode Island along with the completion of an advanced executive education program at Cornell University.

Lisa Sasso, CPCC, PCC  |  Director Emeritus

President/Executive Coach of Medical Development Partners, LLC (MDP)

Lisa is the first MDG Board Emeritus honoree. She has also been responsible for running the annual “Transitioning into the Medical Device Industry” program for the last 13 years. As a board member, she has served in an advisory capacity for almost every MDG subcommittee including marketing, programs, sponsorship, and nomination.
